The Benalla Airport Masterplan is a strategic document that outlines Council’s vision for the development of Benalla Airport over the next 20 years.
It builds on the foundation of the Benalla Airport Masterplan 2015 and has been developed through extensive consultation with aviation and non-aviation stakeholders. The draft Benalla Airport Masterplan 2025 provides a clear roadmap to enhance the airport’s operations, infrastructure and broader community value, reinforcing its role as a critical economic and social asset for north-eastern Victoria.
The draft Benalla Airport Masterplan 2025 outlines a range of proposed developments, including:
- Upgrading runway 08/26 to accommodate larger aircraft
- Expanding taxiways, aprons and hangar precincts
- Improving drainage and access infrastructure
- Supporting tourism, events and industrial growth through mixed-use development areas
- Enhancing environmental protections and recognising key heritage features such as the WWII-era BARC huts
Importantly, the draft Benalla Airport Masterplan aligns with the National Airports Safeguarding Framework and will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains responsive to local needs, market conditions and safety standards.
