Overview
Council has developed a draft Climate and Environment Strategy 2024-2029. The strategy will provide the guiding principles and objectives for Council’s approach to the environment and climate change.
The proposed strategy will also set out the actions that we will take to achieve over the five year lifespan of the strategy. This will include addressing environment and climate change impacts from Council operations.
The strategy will seek to follow the lead of the Victorian and Federal Governments who have established carbon reduction goals. The Victorian Government has committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2050 and has embedded responsibilities within Councils to also act. These responsibilities include promoting economic, social, and environmental sustainability within the municipality as well as addressing Climate Change and the risks that come with it.
