Benalla Rural City Council has received funding from the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) to develop a new Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan to guide future planning and investment in our roads to reduce road trauma and improve transport safety outcomes for all road users across the municipality.
The objective of this project is to develop a data-driven, community-informed Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan aligned with Safe System principles, that provides a clear vision, objectives, actions, and performance indicators for improving road safety across our municipality over the next 5-10 years.
A Speed Management Plan will be developed to support the Road Safety Strategy, reviewing road speed limits for safety and appropriateness for the surrounding environment and road function. The plan will identify opportunities to align local speed limits with national and state guidelines, improve consistency across the road network, and support safer travel speeds in high-risk areas such as town centres, school zones, and rural roads.
