Concept design showing where the new dog park will be and features of the design
Construction is underway on a new, dedicated off-leash dog park on Saleyards Road, creating an exciting new space for Benalla’s dogs and their owners to play and socialise.
This project was driven by strong community feedback gathered during consultations for the Domestic Animal Management Plan 2021-2025 and the recent open space strategy. Residents told us they wanted a larger, fully enclosed dog park, and we listened. The new park will cater to our growing community and provide significant benefits for residents, visitors, and their four-legged companions.
Park Features
The park has been designed to provide a safe, accessible, and enriching environment for all.
- Fully Fenced with Airlock Entries: The entire park will be securely fenced with large, double-gated entries to ensure dogs can enter and exit safely. The design allows for all-abilities access.
- Separate Area for Small or Nervous Dogs: A key feature requested by the community, this separate, enclosed space provides a quieter environment for dogs that need it.
- Sensory Enrichment: The park includes raised landscaped sections with sand, dog-friendly plants, and rockeries to engage a dog’s senses and help reduce stress.
- Accessible Pathways and Seating: Compacted crushed rock paths will provide a durable and level surface for walking, while benches will be available for visitors to rest.
- Parking and Access: Located with easy access and ample parking next to the old saleyards, the park is also signposted to assist residents and visitors, including those travelling on the Hume Highway looking for a safe place to rest and exercise their dogs.
This project is supported by the Victorian Government through the New and Upgraded Dog Parks Program.
Construction on the Saleyards Dog Park is underway and is anticipated to be completed in early 2026.
